Selective and differential culture medium used for isolation and detection of coliform bacteria and enteric pathogens.
MacConkey Agar No.3 is a selective and differential culture medium designed for the isolation of Gram-negative enteric bacteria, particularly coliform organisms. It differentiates lactose fermenting bacteria from non-lactose fermenters based on colony color changes. This medium is widely used in clinical, food, and water microbiology laboratories for detection of enteric pathogens.
